Four years ago, actually nearly five years go, we planted the tops of two pineapples. They were just normal pineapples from our local fruit shop, we cut the top spiky bit off and poked then in the ground. Come back years later and Tah Dah, its pineapple time.
These are my de-fruited plants you can see the centre stars where the pineapples were. They are not the prettiest of plants without their fruit. I am a bit excited too because I think the plants might fruit again, see the sucker coming out from the side. I have 4 to 5 years now to plan how to eat the next lot!
We live in subtropical Bayside Brisbane so there are only a few days, in the depth of winter can you wear more than a decorative scarf, let alone a beanie. So you can imagine my delight in having to wrap everyone up in all my handmade, love infused woolies.

As I was packing, I realised I only had cotton scarves for me, so I panicked, jumped on to Ravelry and found the easiest knitted scarf in the world to make. It's called the Instant Gratification Scarf and uses a drop stitch. Seriously the fastest, easiest thing I have knitted and I am a very beginner knitter.
I am a bit excited, I got new labels for my crafty things. I had some from years ago when I first started making things that were a big out dated and daggy. Back then I mainly made things for my children and my nieces and nephews so they said "Hand made by Aunty Becky." Now that my giving circle is a bit wider and I even sell a few bits and bobs, Aunty Becky isn't really what I am looking for. So I got these babies from this awesome Etsy shop - Ananemon.

We found the perfect solution in whilst Tasmania, in a fantastic little shop called The Maker. Out the front of the store there was a beautifully styled table, heaving with all sorts of desirable bits and pieces, including faux terrarium kits!
I think I like zauberball knitted rather than crocheted, the colours look better with less space between the fibres. I am using my favourite quick shawl maker The Dory Shawl it's just such an easy pattern and perfect for on holidays when you don't want a challenge, just an activity. I don't know if I will put a edging on it or just leave it plain and let the colour do the work?
We have been away, hurtling around Tasmania in a Campervan. Best family holiday ever! We hired Campervan and had two weeks to tour the country side. It really was fantastic and I feel like we just had a tiny taste of all that is there.
(No offence Mum, but it is true and not it's necessarily a bad thing but it may be the source of my current spending/consuming issues.)

As I am now an independent adult, I am free to indulge my 80's fashion needs. I have chosen to start with fluro colours and geometric shapes, Miss S has been assisting me.
It was a great way to use up the old nail polish, I cant believe I nearly threw it all out a few weeks ago! Master B and Miss M also got in on the action and had lots of fun painting the beads. Make sure you do it in a really well ventilated space, the kids enjoyed the activity very very much, a little too much in fact, they may have been high.
I regularly go to the web site and make up dream wish lists, but the shipping price to Australia is so horrendous that I never get further than a wishing. I was recently luckily enough to acquire a few bits and pieces via my lovely cousins in London, and a book from my Aunt, thanks girls.

All my stars aligned when I was on Etsy recently and stumbled on some well prices CK fabrics. This is the really simple messenger bag I made using one of the oil cloths. The thing that makes this bag, I think , is the up-cycled strap. It makes it look a whole lot less home made. It's from an old Fossil bag, and has parrot clips so I can swap it between the two bags now.
How cute is this decorative zip, I got it about 6 months ago at our local patchwork/fabric shop, it was the last one. Apparently they stocked them years ago and had trouble selling them, this one literally had been dosing around the store for ages with no one to love it. It was a bit pricey, I cant remember exactly how much but I remember it was a bit of a splurge. (Maybe thats why they didn't sell well.)

I had this fantastic piece of bunny scrap fabric I was <strike>hoarding </strike> saving for the perfect project. The zip really makes the bag and it is a perfect size for a small crochet or round needle knitting project.

The fabric shop haven't stocked the zips again since and said they don't really have any plans to stock them again. Which initially I thought was a good thing as it would save me lots of money. But I kept thinking about them... needing them for my projects... then low and behold I found some on eBay. 24 X 25cm zips for $18.00 including postage, how good is that? I feel bad buying things from china via the internet and not supporting my local shops but if I cant get them locally, surely it is ok??

Its made out of my favourite Cascade Ultra Pima Cotton in a brilliant multicoloured skien, called Carnival Mix. The exciting thing about this shawl is the bobble fringe. I don't really know if I like the finished shawl but I am really glad that I did it and it is quite striking.
My knitting muse, Yvette has this awesome Coconut Treat recipe. I was actually blown away by the party in my mouth when I tasted it. Not only are they amazingly tasty, but they are sooo good for you. Full of coconut goodness, no refined sugar, no gluten just pure health health health. A bit like the old party favourite Chocolate Crackles but without the hydrogenated fat or the refined sugar and with a higher fibre content.

While we were there we did much sight seeing and of course shopping. We found a Trenery store, it's the mature older sibling of Country Road (because we are mature now.) It is also more like the Country Road of the 90's, classic well cut pieces that aren't too trend dependant so you can wear them for more than one season, Wow what a concept.

I don't buy many clothes these days because A. I make quite a few things and B. I hate paying retail prices and hate being held to "what's on trend." I did how ever love this spotty skirt in Trenery but at $120 of course I was muttering I could make that for a fraction of the price. Mr Daddy was in a retail frenzy and said to just get it! So I did!

The best thing is I got home, traced the pattern and made another one out of some Amy Butler I had in the stash pile. So I figure that I now have two skirts for $120, or $60 each that feels much better doesn't it.
I use my favourite yarn, Cascade Pima Cotton in my favourite colour combo, grey and yellow. It is really quick to hook and most of the shawl is one very, very easy stitch.

However when I got the the scallop edge my pattern reading difficulties kicked in and I couldn't for the life of me work out what I was ment to do, so I made up my own edge. I need to do a technical class in pattern reading. I am great at the visual patterns just not the written patterns. Anyway I still love it and I am currently hooking my third shawl.
I was really struggling to find the right project that was easy enough but inspiring enough. Then the good people at Tangled Yarns published this Splash Cowl pattern and I just happened to have a ball of this amazing Crazy Zauberball Sock yarn, the stars were aligned.
Her Medium of choice is marzipan, and of course it is homemade. Her first cake was the Woman's Day Echidna Cake, which she made her own with the addition of little baby echidnas. Everything is cuter with baby echindas.

The next year she just blew us away with the Organic Veggie Patch Cake. With the left over marzipan she made this Magical Garden Cake for another family function, Wow, I know.
We have had a nice quiet break that seems to have lasted for ages. We have had some play dates, caught up with the greatest of friends and Miss S had a short trip into hospital to have her Tonsils and Adenoids removed.

Miss S told me the night before she didn't have anything to wear to hospital and that I had to make her something. This is just the kind of challenge I love. With a dead line that close and the happiness of a child hanging over me, I flew into action. This is the skirt I made for her and I got so excited and inspired I made a second skirt too.
I have been avoiding doing this for years. I didn't set out to take on this monster project it just sort of happened. But I was thorough, ruthless and there was a label maker involved.

You know how you hear those tips - "If you bring something in, two things must go out" or "If you haven't worn it in 3 months get rid of it." Or that fancy trick swapping hangers different ways around every time you wear it.... I sort of did a mix of all of these tips and it worked. One large garbage bag to the Opp shop, one bag for a friend and one for the rag bag.
As its name suggests, this is a birthday cake that is shaped like a wedding cake. Which is just fine by me as they are really easy to make and I am getting good at them now.

Just stack a couple of sponges on top of each other, roughly cover with butter cream icing, no need to worry about getting things too smooth as you then use chocolate drops to disguise your dodgy icing. Cover the lot with M&M's, freckles and pipe on some more butter cream icing to cover the rough bits. Bang the toy of the moment on top (wash the toys first) and job done!
This is very rare to see a Koala actually in our garden. Its probably not a good thing, and possibly means that their habitat is becoming so reduced that they are forced to hang out at our place. Or he was just lost. Koalas move through their territories via very specific pathways, our house has never been the pathway before. (It was always the house two doors up, their garden is the koala super highway.)

He was very relaxed and in fantastic health, with really clean eyes and bum. He was not bothered by us and didn't mind us taking photos. We had to fight hard against our instinct not to pat him - not cool to pat a koala. He stayed for a while then crossed the garden, squeezed through the fencing and tottered off into the bush - very special indeed.
This is one of my first proper Crochet projects. I started way back before Christmas, then I had my dreadful Crochet Injury and was forced to stop. After following my strict physio regime I was able to start hooking again and got it finished in time for the cooler months. It is made from Noro Taiyo Sock yarn using this Noro Ripple Pattern. It was very addictive, I struggled to put my hook down and felt completely lost when it was finished.
